The printed word on paper remains one of the most effective means of communication. Electronic media such as email works well; is fast and efficient, but lacks the impact of the printed page. When I am composing a message for delivery as the spoken word, as an email or for a printed piece, I find it much more effective to print it out so I can read it and edit it. Nothing beats editing on a piece of paper. You can scratch out, make marginal notes, even cut up the page and re-arrange it. Sure this may use a few pieces of paper but those pages can easily be recycled and reused. Sometimes the only way to uncover defects in a piece I am composing is to print it out and then read from that printed page aloud editing as I go with a pen in hand.
